Eurofighter Typhoon: Flight tests with Taurus KEPD 350 missile started

On January 15, Airbus Defence and Space started flight tests on Taurus stand-off precision missiles on the Instrumented Production Aircraft 7 (IPA7), operated by Eurofighter Project Pilot Chris Worning. The first flight took place at Manching Military Air Systems Center in the north of Munich. After the successful completion of the functional ground test at the end of last year and taxi tests, which were carried out up until yesterday, Airbus Defence and Space has begun an intensive flight test programme with flutter tests, air data system large store interference assessment and aerodynamic data gathering. The activities are taking place as part of the Storm Shadow integration programme. Concurrent testing of these two similar missiles optimises the Storm Shadow integration and facilitates the future airframe integration of Taurus. Taurus KEPD 350 is a German/Swedish missile that is manufactured by Taurus Systems GmbH, a partnership between MBDA Germany and Saab Dynamics.

Optical data link successfully demonstrated between fighter plane and ground station

With a newly developed optical data link, Cassidian enables the real-time transmission of large amounts of data, such as reconnaissance videos, from a fast flying jet to the ground. Thanks to a one hundred times increase in transmission speed compared to conventional systems, in military or in civil operations, e.g. in disaster zones, more detailed situational information can be used more quickly and comprehensively than ever before.

Cassidian successfully performs four Long Term Evolution (LTE) trials for international public safety organisations

During the last few months, Cassidian, together with its partner Alcatel-Lucent, successfully conducted extensive Long Term Evolution trials in 4G LTE pilot networks in France, Spain, the Middle East and Mexico. The partnership of Cassidian and Alcatel-Lucent aims to provide field radio communications systems with mobile broadband data capabilities, whereby Cassidian is using its know-how in the design of PMR solutions and products in the 400 MHz range and control room applications, and Alcatel-Lucent is leveraging its expertise in LTE. All tests clearly showed the benefits of using LTE to improve public services while using existing infrastructure.
